IUSY urges the Iranian authorities to immediately halt the execution of Pakhshan Azizi, a 40-year-old Kurdish social worker who has dedicated nearly a decade of her life to supporting women and children displaced by the war against ISIS in Syrian Kurdistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Thursday, her legal representatives confirmed that the Iranian judiciary rejected her request for a retrial and simultaneously revoked the suspension of her death sentence, putting her at immediate risk of execution. The appeal was dismissed in less than a single working day, without any meaningful review of the case file, demonstrating the complete absence of due process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Multiple United Nations human rights experts, Amnesty International, and other organizations have warned that Pakhshan Azizi\u2019s trial violated fundamental fair trial guarantees. Her conviction and sentencing are based on politically motivated charges rather than a legitimate judicial process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
IUSY demands that the Iranian authorities immediately:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. Halt the execution of Pakhshan Azizi and grant her an independent and fair trial in accordance with international human rights standards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
2. Ensure full transparency in her legal proceedings by allowing independent observers and human rights organizations access to her case. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
3. End the use of the death penalty against political prisoners, activists, and ethnic minorities, particularly in cases where due process has been grossly violated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
IUSY stands in full solidarity with Pakhshan Azizi and all those unjustly targeted for their activism and humanitarian efforts. We call on international governments, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to take immediate diplomatic and legal actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran to prevent this execution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
